We asked

Birmingham City Council would like your views on sexual health services. We are responsible for making sure that there is a good range of services available and would really value your thoughts on what works well and where we could make things better. We are carrying out a full review at the moment and your comments will help us decide how to improve things. You do not need to have used sexual health services to do this.  There will be a formal consultation on proposed changes shortly.

Overview

Birmingham City Council would like your views on sexual health services. We are responsible for making sure that there is a good range of services available and would really value your thoughts on what works well and where we could make things better. What are sexual health services?

Sexual health services are free and available to everyone regardless of age, sex, ethnic origin and sexual orientation. Taking care of your sexual health means more than being free from sexually transmitted infections (STIs), or not having to face unplanned pregnancy through ineffective contraception or lack of choices. It means taking care of your health, your partner’s health, and your decisions about relationships.

In Birmingham, sexual health services include:

  • Contraception services providing condoms, the pill, emergency contraception, implants and coils (sometimes called Family planning)
  • Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) advice, testing and treatment
  • Chlamydia screening
  • Pregnancy advice and Termination services
  • Sexual Health Promotion – eg World Aids day, projects for vulnerable groups
  • Counselling for sexual health
  • HIV treatment and support
  • Emergency Hormonal Contraception (sometimes called morning after pill)

These are offered in a range of settings including:

  • At GP Practices
  • Contraception Clinics (also known as Family Planning clinics)
  • Genito-urinary Medicine (GUM or ‘special’ clinics)
  • Young People’s Services
  • Pharmacies
  • Sexual Assault Centres
  • Termination of Pregnancy Centres

Please help us by letting us know your thoughts on current sexual health services and what you think is important for the future by answering the following questions.

Thank you for your time. The information you provide will be kept confidential and used only for the purposes of reviewing sexual health services. We may share results with our partners; however, your personal details will be removed. The results will be statistical and will never contain anything that could identify you. Your personal details will not be linked to your opinions in any way.
