Ageing Well Strategy Consultation Survey
Section 1 – Ambition
“Our ambition is not simply to respond better to the challenge of later life, but to prevent them whenever possible. We want to build a city where healthy ageing starts well before older age, where support is easier to access, and where organisations across the system work together to identify risks earlier and offer practical help sooner. This includes action on housing, transport, employment, digital inclusion, social participation, carer’s support and community safety- all essential elements of preventing poor health and isolation.
This ambition is rooted in Birmingham’s strengths: its diverse communities, committed voluntary sector, active partners across health and care, and residents who consistently highlight the importance of connection, purpose and dignity. By bringing these strengths together, we aim to shape a city where older people’s voices guide decisions, and where prevention is built into every service, policy and neighborhood.
Above all, our goal is to shift the city’s approach from “managing” the consequences of ageing to enabling people to thrive throughout it. By 2036, we want Birmingham to be recognised as a city where growing older us supported through early action, compassionate communities and environments that help everyone stay well for longer- a place where ageing is not only lived but lived well.”
