We asked
To seek the determination of a statutory proposal by Birmingham City Council
(LA) of Amalgamate Bellfield Infant and Junior School (the School) to:
- Discontinue Bellfield Junior School;
- Alter the age range of Bellfield Infant School to 3 – 11-year-olds
- Enlarge Bellfield Infant School (to add the Bellfield Junior School site and buildings)
- Implementation 1st September 2026
You said
A total of 5 responses received during the representation period; 4 responses were in favour and 1 response was against.
The responses were from - 2 Parents / Carers of pupils at the School, 1 Governor at the School and 2 Staff Members at the School.

We analysised the consultation results and provided the decision maker with a copy of the summary and all comments received for their consideration (Personal or identifying information is removed from responses before sharing with the decision maker).
The decision maker approved the proposal for implementation. Please see decision letter attached to this webpage. A full copy of the decision report can be found via a link at the bottom of this webpage.
On 25th March 2026 the Council determined to implement the proposal as approved. The proposal will be implemented September 2026. A link to the decision report can be found at the bottom of this webpage (this includes a summary of the consultation results).
Overview
Proposal to Make Changes to Bellfield Infant School & Bellfield Junior School:
Birmingham City Council is consulting on a draft proposal to make the following change to the school(s), a community school located at Vineyard Road, Northfield, Birmingham, B31 1PT:
- Discontinue Bellfield Junior School;
- Enlarge Bellfield Infant School
- Alter the age range of Bellfield Infant School to 3 – 11 years old
- Implementation 1st September 2026

Why your views matter
There is a process that Birmingham City Council must follow to propose and decide this type of change. The process requires public consultaiton to invite comments from interested parties.
What happens next
The pre-publication consultation will start on 15th January 2026 and close on 12th February 2026.
During this time, anyone may make comments in support or objection to this proposal via the survey link at the bottom of this webpage.
At the end of the consultation period, all responses will be presented to (pre-pub) the Birmingham City Council & Governing Board for consideration for continuing to statutory publication state the decision maker for their consideration*. The decision maker is Birmingham City Council's Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Culture.
When the decision has been made, the official determination will be published on this webpage with a link to the information about the statutory publication stage will be sent to stakeholders.
