Birmingham Music Visitor Experience Survey

Feedback updated 22 Jun 2026

We asked

How Birmingham can develop a distinctive, inclusive and sustainable Music Visitor Experience grounded in the city’s globally significant musical heritage and contemporary live music ecosystem.

You said

The combined evidence from the roundtables and public survey presents a clear and consistent picture. Birmingham is not an emerging music city. It is an established one.

We did

Not recommend a single delivery route. Instead, a series of options and considerations that reflect the conditions identified through the research. A phased approach is likely to be the most appropriate. Early interventions focused on communication, coordination, and experiences can build confidence and generate evidence. More capital-intensive decisions can then be taken on the basis of demonstrated demand and operational learning

Overview

Birmingham Museums Trust is exploring what a distinctive, inclusive, and sustainable music-led visitor experience should look like for Birmingham.

What is a ‘Music Visitor Experience’?It is more than just a single venue or concert. It represents the entire journey people take to engage with our city's music, from visiting heritage sites and museums to exploring musical landmarks, attending festivals, or using digital trails to discover local history.

Why your voice matters? This project is gathering evidence to map Birmingham’s musical assets and identify opportunities for future investment and development. Whether you are a local resident, a visitor, or a music industry professional, your insights are vital in helping us celebrate Birmingham’s diverse musical heritage and strengthen its identity as a leading global music city.

Please answer the questions based on your professional or personal experience. It should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.
