Overview

What is meant by being ‘mentally healthy’?

Good mental health is not just the absence of mental illness but also the presence of positive characteristics, such as resilience, self-awareness, and emotional regulation. Being mentally healthy allows us to tackle the challenges that daily life brings.

Why is mental health important?

Mental health and wellbeing is as important as physical health. It strongly influences our daily life, our ability to do the things that we need to do including work, study and making and maintaining friendships and relationships.

Our vision is for Birmingham to become a mentally healthy city and your views are invaluable for shaping this vision. By gathering your thoughts, we can find out key things that can help us to achieve our vision, such as: what mental wellbeing means to you, the things that help you to be mentally healthy, how you respond to challenges in life and how you think a mentally healthy city may look.

How your views will be used.

We will use your valuable insight to inform the development of our Creating a Mentally Healthy Strategy. At the end of the survey, there is an opportunity to add your details to be involved in future engagement sessions. This will enable you to continue to shape the Strategy with us, allowing the Strategy to continue to be responsive to your needs.
