Creating a Mentally Healthy City Consultation Survey
INTRODUCTION
The Health and Wellbeing Board (a committee with an aim to improve the health of Birmingham) has an ambition to create a city where every citizen can make choices that allow them to be happy and healthy, recognising the connection between mental and physical health.
A subgroup of the Health and Wellbeing Board 'Creating A Mentally Healthy City Forum' has coproduced a draft strategy which aims to create a city that is mentally healthy. A mentally healthy city, is one that supports individuals in achieving good mental health and wellbeing, as defined by the World Health Organisation as ‘realising one's abilities, coping with normal life stresses, working productively, and contributing to the community’.
The Mentally Healthy City Strategy has two strands:
- Mental health and Wellbeing
- Suicide Prevention
This survey is to consult with citizens of Birmingham to ensure that the draft strategy, focusing on the vision, principles and priorities are reflective of the needs of those who live in Birmingham. This is a further opportunity for those who live in Birmingham to feed into the first draft strategy.
