Druids Heath Regeneration Masterplan Consultation 2024
Overview
Since Druids Heath was built, most of it has been left the same, and it is the only large municipal estate in Birmingham that has received no major regeneration investment. While the location is excellent, the environment and character of certain parts of the area are less desireable, as is the case for the quality, design and layout of many of the properties themselves.
Consequently, In 2016, Birmingham City Council worked with the Homes and Communities Agency, who provided funds to prepare a master plan for the regeneration of parts of Druids Heath.
Following consultation in 2017 and 2018, a preferred option was chosen, which was to rehouse residents from and then demolish six tower blocks (Heath House, Saxelby House, Kingswood House, Barratts House, Hillcroft House, and Brookpiece House) and the former Baverstock School to allow new homes to be built on these areas.
Cabinet approval for this proposal was gained in October 2018 for a 7-year redevelopment programme, and a local lettings plan was put in place to make sure the residents affected by the rehousing had the option to return to Druids Heath.
In July 2022, Cabinet approval was gained for a Levelling Up Fund bid to deliver 3 ideas resulting from the engagement with residents (Village Green, public square, sports pitches, and community amenities) for Druids Heath that would greatly contribute to the regeneration of the area.
Since then, the council have continued to talk with and listening to the community to create a proposed masterplan for the regeneration of Druids Heath. One that meets the needs of the people who live and work there.
The proposed plans aim to make Druids Heath a more sustainable and greener place to live in the long term.
New high-quality, energy-efficient homes will be built alongside excellent green spaces. The commercial and community spaces in Druids Heath will also be revitalised as part of the plan.
This proposed masterplan was shown to the community of Druids Heath in May 2024 at a series of events. Those who attended the events had the opportunity to give feedback and to ask questions about the proposed plans.
This consultation now aims to expand that opportunity further, and allow a wider range of citizens to let us know what they think. Once, this consultation is finished, people's view will be considered, the masterplan will be edited, and approval for the plans will be sought in 2025.

Have your say on the Masterplan Proposals for Druids Heath
Birmingham City Council is consulting with citizens of on the city’s proposed Druids Heath Regeneration Masterplan, following the launch events in May 2024. This survey is focused on identifying what you, as members of the community, like and don’t like about the proposed plans, and what you would like to see incorporated into the masterplan.

What happens next
The consultation period is now open and will take place between June-September 2024. Once concluded, the Council will assess the feedback received and see what changes might need to be made to the masterplan.
Anything that changes will be publicly available, and members of the community will receive communication around what changes have been made and what were not able to be changed and why.
We don’t know yet how we will communicate this as it somewhat depends on the information that comes back to us, but will commit to keep people updated.
The Council are holding a bidder’s day on the 17th July 2024 with organisations who might be looking to partner with us on the regeneration programme.
