Erdington Public Space Protection Order Consultation

Closed 11 Dec 2024

Opened 14 Nov 2024

Overview

Overview

Birmingham City Council is considering the renewal of the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to combat anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Erdington

PSPO's are part of the ASB legislation which was introduced nationally in October 2014. This order will provide the Police and designated Council Officers, with additional powers across a defined geographical area, to tackle a wide range of anti-social behaviours.

Find out more about PSPO's by clicking on the link below:

The prohibitions within the order have been put into place, due to reports made to the Police and the Council from residents, businesses and professionals who live, work and travel into Erdington High Street. The behaviours complained about include substance misuse, the disposal of needles, alcohol, urination, defecation, groups displaying harassing and intimidating behaviours and begging. We propose that the order is renewed for a further 3 years.

We will aim to signpost any person found in breach of the PSPO with drug or alcohol issues to the appropriate Drug and Alcohol rehabilitation services.

This consultation is now live until midnight on the 11th December 2024 and it is your opportunity to put forward any views and opinions. Attached is a full copy of the existing order that expires on the 23rd December 2024 and the proposed varied order that includes a map outlining the area that will be affected.

To support you with the completion of the consultation we have included the following documents (they can be found in the related documents at the bottom of this page):

  • Existing PSPO with Map (expires 23rd December 2024)
  • Proposed PSPO with Map
  • Intelligence document as evidential support for the renewal of the PSPO
  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document
  • Abbreviation Guide

If you are unable to complete this consultation online or would prefer to talk to someone in person, we will be hosting various events across the area during the next four weeks. These may include pop up stands and public meetings and will be advertised through the Police and Council social media pages and through the press.

When the consultation process is concluded all responses and intelligence will be collated and a decision will be made between the appropriate Council and Police leads, as to whether or not the PSPO will be made and what prohibitions will or won't be included.

If you have any questions, then please do not hesitate to contact the Community Safety Team (CSP) using the below details. Likewise, if you require this consultation in a different language or format, please let us know and this can be arranged.
