Local Safety Scheme - Heybarnes Road
Overview
Birmingham City Council has an obligation to undertake safety schemes on the Highway. In order to undertake this commitment, funding has been secured to enable a programme of schemes to be delivered. Schemes are selected using criteria set out in the current Birmingham Road Safety Strategy.
Heybarnes Road between Coventry Road and Hob Moor Road has been identified within the Safety Scheme Programme as meeting the criteria and the following interventions have been identified.
We are proposing to make the following improvements:
The proposals would be delivered in three sections.
- The approach to Coventry Road: new signage and carriageway markings
- Heybarnes Road just north of the junction with Farmer Road: introduction of an uncontrolled pedestrian refuge island with associated carriageway markings. Tactile paving and bollards would also be installed to enhance the visibility of the island
- Somerville Road junction: introduction of an uncontrolled pedestrian refuge island with associated carriageway markings and bollards to protect the pedestrian refuge island and grass verge
