Liveable Neighbourhoods Short Survey
Overview
Tyseley & Hay Mills Liveable Neighbourhoods Pilot Survey
Birmingham City Council look after things like bins, parks, schools, and leisure centres in your neighbourhood, and it is currently putting together a Pilot Liveable Neighbourhood Change Strategy and Delivery Plan ( through funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund), to improve things in Tyseley and Hay Mills Ward.
The aim of this pilot work is to quite simply;
- Make the area a nicer place to live
- Address local health & economic inequalities and improve wellbeing
- Create thriving local shopping centres
- Reduce carbon emissions
- Ensure the right range of services and facilities are are provided to meet the daily needs of the neighbourhood within walking distance of residents homes
Given & acknowledging upfront Birmingham’s current financial difficulties, and the potential loss in the short term of valued and important facilities it is essential we take a step back and look 360 from all angles to explore different, innovative, and alternate ways of delivering services. (eg mobile libraries for example)
We will do this by working with the community, and through public/ private partnerships to support residents where it is most needed, and this pilot project is just one of the ways the Council is exploring how as collective we, the community, and local businesses deliver services for residents, that offers value for money ,sees real positive change on the ground, and establishes in the long term a sustainable pathway for ensuring the right physical environment, services, and facilities are provided to allow residents to lead full, health, happy, and purposeful lives.
Liveable Neighbourhoods Short Survey
We have identified 6 key objectives to delivering liveable neighbourhoods which are underpinned by 11 core componants.
We need to understand your lived experience (by completion of this short survey), as a resident within these componants to develop the pilot Liveable Neighbourhood Change Strategy and Action Plan for the neighbourhood.
After this so what? what will happen?
Along the way we will indentify quick wins, and line up the strategy to influence funding from the forthcoming East Birmingham & Solihull Investment zone, business rate retention in the area,the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and the West Midlands Combined Authority East Birmingham Devolution Deal to name a few.
There has never been a better time to influence real change in the Tyseley & Hay Mills Area but firstly we need your engagement and support so that the strategy is fit for purpose.
Why your views matter
As above, in order to acheive the vision of the pilot we need a deep understanding of the issues local residents are facing in the area under the 11 componants which underpin the 6 key objectives
From the specific perspective of the pilot, we need to understand;
- What works well and what doesnt?
- What is it about the area that you like? what do you not like? and why?
- What are the key services you need access to in walking distance and what do we need to do in the neighbourhood to encourage residents to walk and cycle to them?
- If there are local services in walking distance but you dont use them why dont you use them? is it the quality of the service? Anti social behavour in a park? price and affordability? Cultural reasons?
Getting this right is critical as there is a real opportunity for change through the future East Birmingham and Solihull Investment Zone, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund ( which is funding the majority of this pilot), a devolution deal with the West Midlands Combined Authority focusing on East Birmingham priorities, and business rates retention from the forthcoming Investment Zone
All this means the time has never been better to see real change in the Tyseley and Hay Mills Area and as such it is crucial that we have quality information to guide how funding from these delivery routes is spent to avoid abortive work, and to ensure it is being allocated where it is most needed.
The Liveable Neighbourhood Change Strategy and Delivery Plan will make clear how these opportunites need to be applied in the ward to deliver a thriving liveable neighbourhood for all its residents.
