Outcome of the Libraries Final Consultation - Revised Option 4 Proposal

Closed 3 Nov 2024

Opened 23 Oct 2024

Overview

Following the feedback analysis from the final phase of the Libraries consultation, it highlighted the need for more equitable hours across the city, and in response, we are now proposing a revision of Option 4.

This proposal is directly based on the valuable input we received during the final phase of consultation and will be the recommendation to cabinet.

We now want to hear views on the revised Option 4 and the proposed hours for each Library and encourage comment on the proposed changes from all those who live, work or study in Birmingham.

 Key changes are as follows:

  • Hub location for Ladywood-Feedback from the final in-person consultations shared that Library of Birmingham did not represent a Library Community Hub. Small Heath Library is now the proposed Library Community Hub for Ladywood.
  • Hours per Library for Hubs and Part-time Libraries
Feedback from the final consultation was that the disparity of 5-day and 2-day opening was too great and did not offer high footfall Libraries enough provision.
Hours have been redistributed on a 4-day (Hub), 3-day and 2-day basis.
As with all Libraries there will be an opportunity for full time opening, supported by internal and external partners, groups and the community.
