Safer School Journeys - Robin Hood Academy

Overview

The Safer School Journeys programme is a city-wide initiative designed to make streets around schools safer, healthier and more welcoming for pupils, families and the wider community.

Funded through the Clean Air Zone and aligned with the city’s Road Harm Reduction Strategy, this programme offers dedicated support to help schools identify and address road safety concerns, improve air quality, and encourage more walking, wheeling, and cycling. It also supports the vision for Kids Streets across the West Midlands.

Robin Hood Academy has been selected for improvements as part of this programme.

We are proposing to introduce:

  • Safer and easier places for people to cross by:
    • Making junctions narrower and adding raised crossings at Pitmaston Road/Arkley Road and Pitmaston Road/Hazelville Road/Wellfield Road.
    • Raising the existing crossing outside the school entrance.
  • Coloured road surfacing to make drivers aware they are entering an area with a school.
  • Repainting of existing speed cushions and School Keep Clear markings to make them more visible.
  • Moving the bus stop to help reduce congestion at busy times.
  • Pavement improvements outside the school with potential for benches, planting and cycle parking
