Royal Sutton Coldfield Gateway
Overview
Royal Sutton Coldfield Gateway represents a bold and transformative scheme for the future of Sutton Coldfield Town Centre. This scheme aims to enhance access to, from, and around the heart of the town, delivering improvements to public transport, walking, wheeling, and cycling routes. It also seeks to bridge the barriers posed by the ring road. This scheme delivers the first phases of the vision set out in the Sutton Coldfield Town Centre Masterplan Supplementary Planning Document (SPD).
The scheme is being proposed by Birmingham City Council (BCC), with support from the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council (RSCTC).
It supports the Birmingham Transport Plan, the Sutton Coldfield Town Centre Masterplan SPD, and the WMCA’s sustainable transport funding programmes.
The scheme aims to:
- Improve connectivity to the town centre
- Improve public transport facilities
- Improve walking, wheeling and cycling facilities
- Reduce the barrier the ring road poses to active travel
- Improve links between the railway station, bus interchange, town centre and Sutton Park
- Make the streets more welcoming, safe and accessible
- Make the town centre more attractive for businesses
