Washwood Heath Road cross city bus package 5 - Traffic Regulation Order
Overview
Cross City Bus is funded by a £70 million allocation from the Department for Transport. It aims to improve the connectivity of services, reliability, and journey times.
The purpose of this scheme is to provide bus priority enhancements on the B4114 Washwood Heath Road between Membury Road and Drews Lane.
The works will provide sections of bus lane together with associated changes to parking and loading restrictions. There will also be adjustments to pedestrian crossing provision to maintain user safety.
The need for bus priority measures on Washwood Heath Road between Membury Road and Drews Lane was identified during the development of the Cross City Bus Package 5 scheme (Bartley Green to Chelmsley Wood). These measures will support the smooth running of the 94, 95 and 14 bus services.
The delivery of the measures on Washwood Heath Road have been accelerated as the road is also expected to be impacted by the HS2 works road closures of Aston Church Road and then Saltley Viaduct, which are expected to lead to a substantial increase in traffic using Washwood Heath Road for a two-year period after works commence. HS2’s work is currently forecast to commence in September 2024.
This consultation is about the Traffic Regulation Orders (the legal documents required to make changes to the status of the road) associated with Washwood Heath Road cross-city bus package 5.
