Changing the way we manage waste

Overview

What are the changes?
Birmingham City Council has introduced a new waste, recycling, and food collection service across the city.

The service includes:

  • Weekly food waste collections
  • Fortnightly recycling collections
  • Fortnightly general waste collections

You will receive:

  • A small, grey indoor caddy and a large, brown outdoor caddy for food waste
  • A new green-lid recycling wheelie bin for paper and cardboard
  • A simple instruction leaflet
  • A sticker to label your outdoor bins with your house number

The changes are being introduced in stages across different areas of the city. You will be told in advance before anything changes in your area. *
You can also find more information at: www.birmingham.gov.uk/waste

Why are we changing the service?
We are updating the service to:
- Meet new legal requirements (Environment Act 2021)
- Improve recycling across the city
- Provide a more consistent and well-planned service for residents

*If you haven’t received your new bins yet, you may prefer to wait until they arrive before completing this survey.

Did you know that you can check your collection dates, report missed collections and request help with your collections (assisted collection) by logging into your BRUM account.
