Water Orton Lane and Cottage Lane scheme

Closed 13 Dec 2024

Opened 25 Nov 2024

Overview

Following continued concerns raised by local residents and councillors regarding the number of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) using Water Orton Lane, an option for an enforceable solution to the issue has been drawn up.

Proposed Measures:

  • Introduction of a bus gate (a short section of road that only buses and other authorised vehicles can use) on a section of Water Orton Lane, at its junction with Kingsbury Road. The bus gate will prevent all motor traffic from entering the road unless it is a bus or cycle and will be enforced by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras.
  • Resurfacing of the short section of Cottage Lane between its junctions with Kingsbury Road and Summer Lane, making this section restricted access for cycles and pedestrians only, with no access for motor vehicles.
  • Introduction of a bus and cycle-only left turn into Water Orton Lane from Kingsbury Road.
  • Replacment of the current staggered crossing on Kingsbury Road (outside of The Hare & Hounds) with an ‘all red’ pedestrian/cycle stage. An ‘all red’ traffic signal stops all vehicular traffic at a junction to allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross safely.
  • Realignment and removal of the central island on Kingsbury Road (outside of The Hare & Hounds) to create two lanes for westbound traffic.
  • Creation of two lanes westbound and removing the eastbound right turning lane into Water Orton Lane from Kingsbury Road.
  • Prohibition of the right-turn into Water Orton Lane from Kingsbury Road.

What happens next

Following the consultation period, all responses will be carefully reviewed, and a decision will be made regarding whether to proceed with the scheme as proposed, adopt a revised version, or discontinue the proposal.

Should the decision be made to proceed with the scheme, it will be implemented under a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO, the legal document needed to make changes on roads).
