Rights and Participation Service have consulted with young people on BCC's budget proposals for 2013/14 and the proposed Future Operating Model, and facilitated their involvement in the City-wide consultation process.

We did

Views from the budget consultation and the service review dialogues were made available to the council decision makers to  ensure they were fully informed of any relevant concerns prior to the drafting of the business plan and budget.  A summary of the feedback from consultation can be found in the consultation chapter of the Council Business Plan on the council’s website.

Results updated 11 Mar 2013

  1. Young People were extremely sad and disappointed that the budget cuts would drastically reduce the opportunities and support for young people's participation.
  2. They felt that as Birmingham has the largest and most diverse youth population in Europe it is essential that young people have a voice and that this will be taken away without formal structures linked to strategic decision-making like VIP and YDC.
  3. They felt that decision-makers were not listening to them.

Revised Future Operating Models have been developed as a result of this consultation which will be implemented once agreed.
