Findings showed that care-leavers report negative experiences of the care system, in particular lack of emotional support and nurturing, development of life skills and support networks and low aspirations.
It is concluded that there needs to be more support for transition.
Results showed that young people in care need information and guidance about their rights and entitlements.
Overview
Looked after young people/care leavers are taking part in a series of initial consultation groups to inform the development of long-term research projects into health issues affecting this group by Warwick University. Issues which have been explored so far are: immunisation, mental health and transitions from care. The Young people involved are gaining skills in user-led research.
