The services we use are good but there are not enough of them. Too often there is a waiting list, or we are only offered a service every few weeks. Children enjoy the short breaks. Staff are well-trained and able to meet the needs of the children.

We did

We tendered for short breaks for children with complex needs. The new service providers are expected to maximise the number of disabled children recieving a service whilst maintaining high quality provision and Birmingham City Council is working with a range of providers to look at how we can work in partnership to increase the short breaks offer.

Overview

Consultation is being carried out to find out the views of parents / carers of disabled children and young people with complex needs about Short Breaks.

Consultation will be via Questionnaire (attached to print off and complete or online) sent to parents/carers via existing services and Parent Carer Forum.

Parent/carers at existing services have been consulted directly at play schemes. Children and young people were also invited to share their views if they chose to.

Why your views matter

The Children's Commissioning Team is preparing to re-commission a set of services for this group of children and young people.

What happens next

The Commissioning strategy will go to procurement for approval and the commissioning of services will take place.
