Overview

Birmingham City Council are launching the first Birmingham Education Development Plan 2014-2019, outlining our approach to developing our education and skills infrastructure to support sustainable growth. The Education Development Plan sits under the umbrella of the Birmingham Development Plan.

The Education Development Plan will be delivered through three interconnected Strategic Plans

  1. Basic Need Strategy
  2. Schools Maintenance and Sustainability Strategy.
  3. Full Participation and Skills Strategy.

The City's population is projected to grow by an additional 150,000 people over the period to 2031. Our school places are already experiencing significant increased pressure for school places as a result of population growth.

The Education Development Plan sets out our approach to meeting the challenges of securing sufficient suitable, high quality education places and ensuring that our young people are equipped with the skills they need for further education, training and employment.
