We asked for comments with regards to the Local Sustainable Safer Routes to School Programme.

There was strong support for majority of the proposed measures. A number of request for additional measures were requested. There was also some objections to some of the proposed measures.

We did

The Full Business Case for the proposed scheme was approved by the Chief Officer and the works were completed in October 2015.

Overview

Birmingham City Council is working in partnership with Centro to deliver LSTF measures along A38 Bristol Road, including ‘Safer Routes to Schools’.

The outline proposals have been developed, in discussions with the School Travel Plan Team for Turves Green Girls School, Turves Green Boys Technology College and Bournville School as shown on the attached drawings CA-02102_S11_001 & CA-02102_S11_003. A summary of the proposals are listed below:

(i) Turves Green Girls School & Turves Green Boys Technology College

  • New zebra crossing facility, on Turves Green outside the Turves Green Girls School.
  • Uncontrolled crossings on The Oak Walk at junction with Turves Green and Titterstone Road at junction with Clunbury Road.

(ii) Bournville School

  • One way system on Griffins Brook Lane (immediately outside the school)
  • Footway widening on the school side of Griffins Brook Lane.
  • Uncontrolled crossings on Griffins Brook Lane near junction of Bristol Road South.
  • 20mph speed Limit, on the full length of Griffins Brook Lane.
  • Double yellow lines along Griffins Brook Lane (immediately outside school).
