Overview
Birmingham City Council has secured Department for Transport ‘Local Pinch Point’ funding to deliver infrastructure improvements at key roundabout junctions on the Ring Road, to reduce congestion and improve access to the Central Business District and Enterprise Zone.
We are now seeking the views of the members of the public and businesses on the proposals for Bordesley Circus, Haden Circus, Curzon Circle and Holloway Circus. Public exhibitions for these schemes will be carried out as listed below and you are invited to discuss your views. Information is also provided on the website www.birminghambeheard.org.uk and you can send your response via e-mail. Proposals are also being developed for Ashted Circus which will be subject to a separate consultation at a later date.
Junction Improvements at Haden Circus
We are seeking to implement the following works in 2015 to reduce congestion at Haden Circus; these works are shown on drawing no: CA-02572-S1-001 and entail:
- Providing a dedicated physical left turn slip lane between Belgrave Middleway and Highgate Middleway.
- Providing new part time signals and an additional lane on Belgrave Middleway approach to the roundabout.
- Relocating the signalised pedestrian crossing on Highgate Middleway. The crossing will be located approximately 30m north of Highgate Middleway from its existing location.
- Relocating existing Bus Stop on Belgrave Middleway adjacent to Frank Street approx. 117m from its existing location on Belgrave Middleway between Birmingham Central Mosque and The Wand Medical Centre.
- Providing a new signalised pedestrian crossing on Belgrave Road.
- Providing new road markings on Belgrave Road exit to formalise two lanes.
- Providing additional signs to existing parallel cycle routes to promote these routes as an alternative to cycling through the busy roundabouts. The existing parallel cycle routes around Haden Circus are shown on drawing no CA-02572-S1-004.
The Council would like to hear your views on these proposals and would be grateful if you could attend the public consultation exhibition. The details are provided below. The details of the proposals will be displayed from 30th June to 21st July 2014 at all the venues except for the Library of Birmingham.
