We asked for comments with regards to the Local Sustainable Safer Routes to School Programme.

There was strong support for majority of the proposed measures. A number of request for additional measures were requested. There was also some objections to some of the proposed measures.

We did

The Full Business Case for the proposed scheme was approved by the Chief Officer and the works were completed in spring 2015.

Overview

Birmingham City Council is working in partnership with Centro to deliver LSTF measures along A41 Warwick Road, including ‘Safer Routes to Schools’.

The outline proposals have been developed, in discussions with the School Travel Plan Team for Ninestiles School, Archbishop Ilsley School and Yardelys School as shown on the attached drawings CA-02102_S15_101 – 102, CA-02102_S15_201and CA-2102_S15_301. A summary of the proposals are listed below:

(i) Ninestiles School.

  • Upgrading of existing zebra crossing facility on Shirley Road.
  • 20mph speed limit on Shirley Road (from approx. No. 318 – 412 Shirley Road) and the whole length of Hartfield Crescent.
  • Uncontrolled crossing on Oakhurst Road / Shirley Road junction.
  • Replacement of existing guard railing sections with proposed 14no bollards.
  • Advance school warning signage.

(ii) Archbishop Ilsley School.

  • New zebra crossing facility on Victoria Road immediately fronting the entrance to the school.
  • New section of guard railing.
  • Existing road markings to be improved.

(iii) Yardleys School.

  • New zebra crossing facility on Reddings Lane fronting property number 120 Reddings Lane.
  • New sections of guard railing.
  • 20mph speed limit section on Reddings Lane (approx. between properties 90 – 138 Reddings Lane).
  • Extension of existing build-out, fronting property no 114 Reddings Lane.
  • New build outs on Reddings Lane.
  • 1no. uncontrolled crossing.
