We asked for your comments on approximately 42 locations as the first tranche of improvements cycle parking facilities across entire area of Birmingham. It is jointly funded from Capital Program and Birmingham Cycle Revolution (BCR) Department for Transport fund. The scheme will start the delivery of cycle parking facilities along BCR Main Corridors of A47 Parkway, Alcester Road, Bristol Street, Lichfield Road, Soho Road and other key routes at additional locations of strong demand. A number of comments were received about the proposed cycle stand in the Moseley area. A number of alternative locations were suggested for possible stand and therefore an additional consultation was carried out.

These sites have been included as part of the Full Business case for this package of works and implementation will begin in June / July 2016.

Overview

This project will improve cycle parking facilities across Moseley Village Local Centre. It is funded from Birmingham Cycle Revolution (BCR) Department for Transport fund. Scheme will deliver parking facilities along Alcester Road, which was identified as one of BCR Main Corridors. Specific locations are shown on drawings for each site, available to download and print.

Project aims to achieve the following goals:

  • Improvement of the parking provisions for existing cyclists;
  • Encourage choice of cycling as a practical mode of transport for new users;
  • Reduction in cycle theft and vandalism;
  • Ensure adequate response to increased demand for cycling facilities;
  • Cutback on obstruction and potential hazard caused by informal cycle parking (e.g. against fences or lighting columns);
  • Reduction in the street clutter;
  • Refurbishment of unsafe/damaged existing facilities.
