Overview

In 2006 Digital Birmingham launched Birmingham's Looking Local Interactive Digital Television service which provided citizens with greater access to local services such as missed bin collections, Jobcentre Plus vacancies and travel and transport information (www.lookinglocal.gov.uk/birmingham).

It is with regret that Digital Birmingham has now proposed the termination of Birmingham’s contract with Kirklees Metropolitan Council, resulting in the customised Looking Local resource for Birmingham ceasing to operate and be available to Birmingham citizens.

This will take effect from May 2015 and is due to the continued local authority budget cuts which is making the continued provision of the service unsustainable for Digital Birmingham.

Why your views matter

In preparation for the proposed termination of Birmingham’s Looking Local contract with Kirklees, and the withdrawal of the interactive digital television service for Birmingham, we wanted to take the opportunity to consult with you on this decision and provide you with the opportunity to feedback any concerns you may have with this course of action.

Birmingham citizens will still be able to access a number of the nationally developed content plug-ins from the main Looking Local site (www.LookingLocal.gov.uk/Lookinglocal) and entering your postcode details; Looking Local will then point you to all the relevant content available for the Birmingham area, such as Universal Jobs Match; NHS Choices, Patient Opinion and Disabled Go to name a few.

However the Health, Social and Housing content, including Birmingham Home Choices will no longer be available.

What happens next

Thank you for engaging and responding to this consultation which will close on Friday 27th February 2015 and help us evaluate the impact of withdrawing the Looking Local Digital Television service for Birmingham.

The results of this consultation will be analysised and completed by Friday 6th March 2015, with a view to any remedial action and feedback taking place by Friday 13th March 2015.
