Overview

In December Birmingham City Council consulted on a proposal to expand Paganel Primary School by adding an additional form of entry and including the provision of a Resource Base for up to 12 pupils with a statement of needs or an Education, Health & Care Plan for Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) from 1st September 2015.

We have now decided to move onto the formal part of the consultation which will run from 8th January 2015 for four weeks until 5th February 2015. Comments/objections received during this time will be taken to Cabinet in March along with a report on the proposal for a decision.

Paganel Primary School is a community primary school located on Swinford Road in Selly Oak, within the Bartley Green ward of the Edgbaston district.

The school was previously a two form entry school. It caters for pupils aged 2 - 11. The school has operated as a one form entry community primary school that offers 30 places per year group for a number of years. The school has been able to offer 30 additional places in reception in September 2013 (current year 1) and up to an additional 30 places in Year 2 in September 2014. These additional classrooms were accommodated in existing available accommodation at the school. The school is also currently  offering a resource base provision for up to 6 pupils with Autistic Spectrum Condition.

In response to the Education Sufficiency Requirements from Birmingham City Council in November 2013 www.birmingham.gov.uk/schools/esr, the Governing Body of Paganel Primary School submitted an Expression of Interest form to consider the possible expansion of the school to include the provision of a special educational needs resource base for up to 12 pupils.

The proposal is to:

  • Expand Paganel Primary School by 30 places (one additional forms of entry) per year group, taking the school from 30 places to 60 places per year.
  • Provide a Special Education resource base for up to 12 pupils with a statement of educational needs or an Education, Health and Care Plan for Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC).
