The City Council published a Draft Parking Supplementary Planning (SPD) for consultation on 9th January 2020. Consultation closed on 28th February 2020.

The document included proposed revised parking standards for new developments.

Views on the document were gathered from organisations and individuals.

You said

Over 230 responses were received.  These have all been analysed to feed into a revised version of the Parking SPD which will be taken forward for adoption.  A Consultation Statement will be published alongside this in due course.

Overview

All vehicular journeys begin and end with parking, so managing parking provision is a vital tool for addressing travel behaviours, reducing car ownership and usage and helping Birmingham to meet its priorities around climate change and clean air.

The Birmingham Parking Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), once adopted, will replace the existing Car Parking Guidelines SPD (2012), and support the replacement of the Birmingham Parking Policy (2010).

The document includes revised parking standards for new developments which reflect new national planning guidance and support the delivery of the Birmingham Development plan, the city’s Clean Air Strategy and the forthcoming Birmingham Transport Plan.

The SPD also sets out a parking strategy for Birmingham, taking a balanced approach to parking provision and promoting sustainable travel.

From 9th January 2020, Birmingham City Council would like to hear your views on the Birmingham Parking SPD Consultation Draft.
