Safety Management Audit

Closed 30 Apr 2021

Opened 6 Nov 2020

Overview

As the employer, Birmingham City Council has overall responsibility for the health and safety of those we employee and to others such as members of the public, service users, pupils etc. that we may impact upon, so far as it is reasonably practicable to. In order to demonstrate compliance with the legislative requirements placed upon the organisation, BCC must monitor the effectiveness of the arrangements it has put in place to protect those for which we have a responsibility for.

We therefore perform audits to ensure the effective management of our properties, assets, employees and others. These audits broadly assess our management of risk locally and the adequacy of the associated control measures.

Why your views matter

Throughout BCC, the management of employee safety is the delegated responsibility of Managers and Responsible Persons. This relates specifically to the activities your team carry out and the locations where they are undertaken. Therefore we require you to complete the Health and Safety Management Audit which has been created to all BCC to form a central understanding of the degree to which compliance is being achieved. In addition, it allows us to consider where we may look to perform further, physical site inspections and employee interviews.

This process provides the organisation with some assurances that local Managers and Responsible Persons understand the duties for which they are responsible and that these have been undertaken adequately. During completion of the return it would be beneficial to include individuals who have delegated responsibility of safety management processes.
