Overview
The Governing Body of Harborne Primary School in collaboration with Birmingham City Council and Lordswood Girls Schools are consulting on a proposal to expand Harborne Primary School from 1st September 2016.
Harborne Primary School is a community primary school located on Station Road in Harborne, within the Harborne ward of the Edgbaston district.
The school currently operates at 90 places (3 classes) per year group. The school can currently accommodate a total of 630 places in Years Reception - Year 6.
In response to the published Education Sufficiency Requirements from Birmingham City Council in November 2013 www.birmingham.gov.uk/schools/esr , the Governing Body of Harborne Primary School submitted an Expression of Interest form in conjunction with Lordswood Girls School to consider the possible expansion of the school in order to support the need for additional primary school places in the area.
The proposal is to:
Expand Harborne Primary School by 60 places (two additional forms of entry) per year group, taking the school from 90 places to 150 places per year. The current school site on Station Road cannot support an expansion, therefore an additional site at Lordswood Girls’ School on Knightlow Road, Harborne has been identified for the building of an annex to accommodate the additional places.
Full details of the changes are explained in the consultation document below.
Why your views matter
As this expansion plan is proposed by the Governors under the new regulations there is no requirement for a statutory consultation. The Governing Body of Harborne Primary would however like to hear your views and seek to accommodate these in their proposed plan.
This consultation will start on 5th November 2014 and will run until 12th December 2014.
What happens next
The consultation will begin on 5th November 2014.
The consultation period will run until 12th December 2014.
During this time anyone who wishes to make comments about this proposal should do so via this survey or completing and returning the form at the end of the consultation document. Although it may not be possible to respond to individual comments, all of the issues raised during the consultation period will be considered.
At any point during the process the proposal may be withdrawn or rejected by either the Governing Body of Harborne Primary School or Lordswood Girls School, or the City Council.
Following this consultation and if the Governors decide to move forward with the proposal, the proposed increase in numbers will be included in the consultation by the Local Authority on admission arrangements for 2016 due for determination by Cabinet in March 2015.
Following the above determination the school will be expanded and take the additional intake from 1st September 2016.
We will advise the outcome of the proposal on this website.
