Overview

The Canal & River Trust are planning to construct a new access to the Tame Valley Canal, on Brookvale Road in Witton.

The proposal is to construct a new ramped access from the highway to the northern canal towpath, in the area highlighted in red on the attached plan.  Also attached are some photographs of this area for reference.

Currently, the main towpath of the Tame Valley Canal switches from one side of the canal to the other at Brookvale Road Bridge.  Towpath users currently have to cross the busy Brookvale Road as part of their journey along the canal.  Once constructed, the new access will help towpath users cross underneath Brookvale Road rather than them having to cross the road itself.  It will also help those people wishing to join or leave the canal towpath at this point.

The new access will be usable by pedestrians, cyclists and people with disabilities, and will be owned by Canal & River Trust.

The proposal is dependent upon Canal & River Trust acquiring a small piece of land from the adjoining Brookvale Trading Estate.  If this can be achieved, we hope to commence construction within the next six months.

If you have any comments on the proposal, please email transport.projects@birmingham.gov.uk or Simon Goacher at Simon.goacher2@canalrivertrust.org.uk by 18th August 2017.
