Overview

Proposal by the Interim Executive Board (IEB) of Al-Furqan Primary School:

The IEB, working in full collaboration with the Local Authority (LA), which is Birmingham City Council, is proposing to make the following changes to Al-Furqan Primary School:

Change the category of school from Voluntary Aided (VA) to Voluntary Controlled (VC) in September 2022.

Following an Ofsted judgment of Inadequate in 2012, an IEB has been in place at the school since April 2013.

Following improvements in the school and an Ofsted judgement of Good in June 2017, various options for the school have been examined and the IEB believes that a change of category to become VC is the preferred option for the school to continue its improvement journey.

Details of the proposal can be found in the Pre-Publication Document attached at the bottom of this consultation webpage.

Why your views matter

There is goverment guidance and a statutory process which the IEB must follow to make this type of change to the school.

The IEB is consulting stakeholders in two parts:

Part 1: this is the current informal consutlation ('pre-publication') which is open from Tuesday 25th January 2022 until Monday 21st February 2022.

During part 1 stakeholders are invited to give your views and comments on the proposal. Comments from part 1 will be for the IEB to consider in collaboration with the LA. The IEB will then decide whether or not to progress to part 2 of the process. (Note: Comments received during this part 1 consultation are not shared with the final decision maker.)

Please use the documents and survey link at the bottom of this page to give your views and comments to the IEB before 21st February 2022.

What happens next

Please note this part 1, pre-publication consultation period has been extended until Monday 21st February 2022.

After part 1 consultation closes, the results and comments from the consultation will be provided to the IEB, who will then decide whether or not to continue to part 2 of the process.

The IEB are taking time to consider all the responses from the part 1 consultation before confirming what happens next.

This webpage will be updated and stakeholders will be informed when the IEB's intentions for part 2 are confirmed.
