School Organisation: Amalgamation of Birches Green Infant School and Birches Green Junior School

Closed 16 Oct 2020

Opened 7 Sep 2020

Overview

At the request of the Governing Body of Birches Green Infant School and the Interim Executive Board of Birches  Green Junior School, Birmingham City Council, as the Local Authority for Birmingham, is consulting on a proposal to amalgamate Birches Green Infant School and Birches Green Junior School to create one all through primary school with effect from 1st April 2021.

In order to amalgamate the schools it is necessary to;

  • Discontinue Birches Green Junior School
  • Alter the upper age limit of Birches Green Infant School
  • Enlarge by expanding  Birches Green Infant School to  accommodate pupils of junior  school age.

These changes will result in the amalgamation of both schools to form an all through primary school.

Birches Green Infant  School will be proposing to change its name to  reflect the change to the age range and amalgamation.

All pupils from Birches Green Junior school would have the right to transfer to the primary school unless they wanted to seek other arrangements.

Why your views matter

There is a statutory process that we must follow to make these sorts of changes to schools. At the moment we are entering the six week pre-publication consultation stage during which we want to hear your views on the proposal.

We are keen to receive your views on this proposal. Full details of the proposal and how to make comment are provided in the pre-publication consultation document attached to this webpage.

What happens next

If, after considering your views the Interim Executive Board, the Governing Board and the Local Authority still think it is a good idea, we will publish further statutory proposals and allow four weeks for people to formally comment on them.

We will keep you updated on the "we asked, you said, we did" section of this page at the end of the consultation.

We thank all respondents for taking the time to make comments, it is greatly appreciated.
