BLACHIR Phase 1 Engagement Workshop Survey

Closed 20 Sep 2021

Opened 7 Jul 2021

Birmingham and Lewisham African & Caribbean Health Inequalities Review (BLACHIR) is a joint research project between Lewisham Council and Birmingham City Council. It has begun ground-breaking work to gather insights on health inequalities experienced by African and Caribbean communities.

The Review is taking a thematic approach which explores specific topics with an academic board and external advisory board based on the published evidence base. The Boards work with Public Health to use this evidence to create recommended opportunities for action that will drive sustainable change.

The Review is keen to engage a wider range of people in reviewing these opportunities for action before the completion of the project through wider engagement and reflection, including perspectives from individuals with lived experience.

The first three themes completed by the Review are:

  • Racism and Discrimination impact on Health and Wellbeing
  • Early Years, Pregnancy and Parenthood
  • Children and Young People (e.g. youth violence, not in education, employment or training (NEET), opportunities).

This online survey gives you an opportunity to comment on the recommendations from the review so far and feed into the Review report.

For more information about the BLACHIR review please visit Birmingham City Council’s website:

The data collected through the survey is anonymous, so you cannot be identified from what you have said.

We plan to publish the findings from the survey at a population rather than an individual level (for example in tables or graphs using summary results) and any quotes used from answers will remain anonymous.

While Birmingham City Council feel that the questions we have asked in this survey are anonymous and would not place you at risk of being identified as an individual, we will ensure that if any data is provided that creates such a risk we will process as per our privacy statement. By providing a response you consent to the use of any such personal data in this manner. Full details are available on the link below:
