Disposal of Education Playing Field Land (Section 77): Burford Road Unattached Playing Field

Overview

Birmingham City Council wishes to dispose of 50,909 square meters (12.58 acres) of playing field land at Burford Road Birmingham B44 8EE, under section 77 of the Schools Standards and Framework Act 1998.

In order to dispose of this playing field it will be necessary for Birmingham City Council to apply for written consent from the Secretary of State. It is only at that point that we will be able to dispose/change use of this land.

We are consulting all interested parties on this proposed disposal and are interested to receive your comments. 

The playing fields have not been used by a school or any community group for approximately 18 months.

Although the fields are not being used, Birmingham City Council continues to maintain them.There are ongoing costs for the maintenance and upkeep of these fields.

Should approval be given, Birmingham City Council is proposing to use the land to address the current housing shortage. This will be subject to planning permission and all other relevant approvals. Any proceeds from the disposal of these playing fields will be used to provide alternative sporting facilities in the city.

Why your views matter

We are interested in receiving comments regarding the proposal to dispose of these fields.

The consultation will run from Thursday September 12th  2019 to Thursday October 24th October 2019.

All comments received will be forwarded to The Secretary of State who will make a decision on the disposal of the fields.
