We asked

We asked for your comments on the proposal to change the age range at Cotteridge Primary School which would remove nursery provision with effect from September 2020.

You said

We received 79 responses to the consultation via this consultation webpage and by email. The comments were from families of pupils, school staff and local residents. Most comments were in objection the proposal.

We did

The responses were reviewed by the Education Infrastructure team at Birmingham City Council and further consideration was given to the circumstances of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) emergency.

Birmingham City Council is giving notice that the proposal to change the age range at Cotteridge Primary School, to remove nursery provision, has been withdrawn.

The withdrawal of this proposal is due to the current circumstances of the COVID-19 emergency and circumstances of pupils at the school. The school closed during the statutory consultation period and, as there had been a high level of public interest, the Local Authority could not ensure that all interested parties would have been able to make comments (representation) during the statutory consultation period.

The formal withdrawal notice is attached at the bottom of this webpage and a letter has been issued to the Chair of Governors and Head Teacher of the school.

Overview

Cotteridge Primary School is a community school and nursery for pupils aged 3 - 11 years. The school is located on Breedon Road, Birmingham B30 2HT (Stirchley Ward and Selly Oak District.)

This proposal by Birmingham City Council, in collaboration with the school, is to consult formally on the removal of the nursery provision from Cotteridge Primary School by:

  • Altering the lower age limit from 3 years to age 4 years;
  • The age range would become 4 - 11 years;
  • The nursery provision would be removed with effect 1st September 2020.

This change is being proposed due to:

  • High amount of nursery provsion in the local area;
  • Low number of nursery pupils at the school in recent years;
  • Low pupil numbers affect the amount of funding;
  • Low funding is putting strain on the school budget.

Further details of the proposal are in the Full Proposal Document attached at the bottom of this consultation webpage.
