All comments received (redacted) were sent along with a report to Birmingham City Council's Cabinet who are the decision makers for this proposal.
The proposal to close Hunters Hill College was approve by Cabinet in a meeting held on 19th January 2021.
As part of Birmingham City Council's constitution, following any decision, there is a 4 day "call in" period, whereby any of Birmingham City Council's Councillors may request that any decision be called in for further scrutiny and ultimately be referred back to Cabinet for further consideration of the decision made.
These call in requests are considered by Overview and Scrutiny Committees.
The decision to close Hunters Hill College was subsequently called in.
Education and Children's Social Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee met on 3rd February 2021 to consider whether the proposal should be referred back to Cabinet for consideration of the decision.
The Committee, agreed for the original decision to stand.
Birmingham City Council, as the Local Authority, in exercise of the powers conferred on it, has determined to implement the proposal, as detailed to;
Discontinue Hunters Hill College with effect from 31st August 2021

Overview
Proposal to Close Hunters Hill College
Hunters Hill College is a Birmingham community special school located outside the City boundary in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.
The School can currently offer up to 135 places for pupils aged 11- 16 years who have an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) for Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH).
Birmingham City Council has been exploring the options for the future of Hunters Hill College as a direct result of the outcome of the OfSTED inspection carried out in 2019 and the subsequent Directive Academy Order issued by the Secretary of State.
In addition, the pupil numbers have been reducing and the condition of the buildings remains poor with some being beyond economical repair. These factors have had a significant impact on the financial viability of the school.
Birmingham City Council as the Local Authority for Birmingham is consulting on the following proposal;
Closure of Hunters Hill College with effect from 31st August 2021.
Why your views matter
There are two parts to the School Organisation consultation process.
The first one is the pre-publication consultation. Birmingham City Council carried out an extensive 17 week pre-publication consultation between 22nd June 2020 and 16th October 2020 with parents, carers, staff and other stakeholders.
During the first part of the School Organisation consultation process we received 153 responses, of which; 54 were in favour, 89 were opposed and 10 didn’t know or didn’t state a preference.
We would like to thank all those parents, staff and other stakeholders, who sent us their views and comments.
Birmingham City Council has now considered all comments and has decided to move to the second part of the School Organisation consultation process for this proposal, which is the formal consultation, also known as representation stage.
The second part of public consultation on this proposal will start on
12th November 2020 and will run until 10h December 2020 (4weeks).
Birmingham City Council would like to give all parents and all interested parties the opportunity to comment on the proposal.

What happens next
This is the second part of the consultation process and is know as the representation stage. This will start on 12th November 2020 and will run for 4 weeks until 10th December 2020.
If you wish to make your views known to the decision makers it is important that you submit these during this formal consultation period in writing even if you commented previously. Comments from part 1 of the consultation (pre-publication) were for consideration by the Local Authority and will not be included in the final report for the decision makers.
During this time anyone who wishes to make comments/objections about this proposal should do so via this survey.
