Parental Survey for Childcare in Birmingham 2020

Overview

• The Local Authority has a statutory duty to secure sufficient childcare, so far as is reasonably practicable, for working parents or parents who are studying or training for employment, for children aged 0-14 (or up to 18 for disabled children).
• The Local Authority is also required to report annually to elected council members on how they are meeting their duty to secure sufficient childcare and make this report available and accessible to parents.
• Childcare is delivered in the following ways in Birmingham to meet parental demands:
  • Registered Childminders
  • Nannies
  • Day Nurseries
  • Pre Schools and Playgroups
  • Nursery Classes in schools
  • Nursery Schools
  • Out of School Clubs
  • Holiday Playschemes
• Childcare is free for eligible 2 ,3 and 4 year olds taking their Early Education Entitlements
• Childcare for hours over and above the free entitlements will require fees to be paid to the childcare provider

• Understand how existing childcare delivery is/not meeting parental demand
• To identify any existing barriers
• To inform future strategies to improve the delivery of childcare to meet parental demands and expectations.
