Overview

Proposed Changes to St Margaret Mary RC Primary School

Birmingham City Council as the Local Authority and  in full collaboration with the Governing Body of the school is consulting on the following proposal;

  • Enlarge by expansion St Margaret Mary RC Primary School by 15 places per year group, taking the school from 30 places per year to 45 places per year; with effect from 1st September 2017.

St Margaret Mary RC Primary School is a voluntary aided primary school located on Perry Common Road, Erdington, in the Kingstanding ward of the Erdington district of the City.

The school was historically a one and a half form entry primary school offering 45 places per year but has more recently been operating as a one form entry primary school that offers 30 places per year.The school opened a 20 place ( 20 pupils in the morning/ 20 in the afternoon) nursery in September 2014, this was established in accommodation that was available at the school at the time.

In response to the Education Sufficiency Requirements from Birmingham City Council in November 2015 (www.birmingham.gov.uk/schools/esr), the Governing Body of St Margaret Mary RC Primary School submitted an Expression of Interest form to consider the possible expansion of the school back to a one and a half form of entry school offering a total of 315 places.

The school has been able to offer an additional 15 places in reception in both September 2015 & 2016.  These additional places are currently provided within the available accommodation at the school site.  This is while approval is sought for the permanent expansion and the building of extensions required to expand on a permanent basis throughout all year groups at the school.
