Overview

We are interested in your views.

You may be aware that there has been work amongst partners through the South East Birmingham, Local Community Safety Partnership, to look at issues being experienced by local residents in Both Moseley & Kings Heath.

Birmingham City Council is consulting on the proposal to introduce a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) in the area around the Moseley & Kings Heath High Streets. This is to address anti social behaviour that includes, but is not limited to, street drinking and asociated behaviour, youth violence, consumption of intoxicating substances including nitrous gas, large anti social groups gathering and destruction of public property including grafitti.

A local authority can make a PSPO if satisfied on reasonable grounds that there are a number of activities, carried out or are likely to be carried out in a public space ‘the restricted area', shown outlined on the map attached that have had, or are likely to have, a detrimental effect on the quality of life of those in the locality. The effect or likely effect of these activities is of a persistent or continuing nature such as to make these activities unreasonable, and justifies the restrictions imposed in this order.   (Anti-social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014) (for full details see www.legislation.gov.uk)

This Order has been informed by evidence from residents and professionals, which demonstrates the scale of the issue for the local community, and we aim for it to be implemented for a time period of 3 years.

We are now at the consultation phase for this Order, which will conclude on the 17th September 2023.  As part of this, are you able to provide me with comments in support of or against this Public Space Protection Order?  These will be reviewed before the decision is taken as to wether or not we should proceed.

There is a draft order & map in the attached consultation document.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss further.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Emma Chander
