We asked

For your views on the proposed changes to the current service model for the Neighbourhood Advice and Information Service (NAIS) which is devolved to District Committees; and why it is necessary to make these changes.

You said

There were no responses to the consultation.

We did

The outcome of the review of neighbourhood advice was to reshape the service and for a number of sites to close and the service refocus around main Homeless advice centres (HACs). The reshaping is still ongoing as part of the financial savings.

Overview

Birmingham City Council has been undertaking a review of our Neighbourhood Advice and Information services over the past 12 months and wrote to agencies last year when the Council was identifying options for meeting a 28% reduction in the service budget.

Why your views matter

The council, unfortunately, continues to face significant budget pressures and districts have to find £7.3m savings in 2014/15 increasing to £10.1m in 2015/16. District Committees, that oversee the service, have met to consider changes need to services to meet these pressures. The outcome of the review is that overall the Neighbourhood Advice and Information Service is required to find savings target of £1.898m this year increasing to £2.158m in 2015/16.
