We asked

We asked local people to complete a questionnaire on their current usage of the park, and of their prefered improvements to the site from a list.

The park was renamed Morris Park, following a public vote. The list of potential improvements has been put in priority order.

We did

We took the results to the Friends group, local councillors and other local representaitves and they supported the consultation and have asked the Parks service to develop the favourite top 8 items from the list of improvements in to an affordable scheme. The proposals are being presented at Washwood Heath Ward Committee on Tuesday 20th January, 6:30pm at Thornton Road Primary School. It is hoped that the scheme will be approved and be constructed between April and June 2015 - ready for the Summer.

Questionnaire:  Overall we had 73 questionnaire responses.

All the existing park facilities on average were rated on the good end of adequate or even good, which is positive news for the current design and management of the site.  Generally younger people rated the current facilities higher than older people…

Overview

The Friends of the park in conjunction with Birmingham City Council have over £180,000 to invest in the site.  The funding derives from legal agreements relating to local private and municipal housing developments and is specifically ring-fenced for this site.

This consultation questionnaire gives the local community the opportunity to influence the choice and type of proposals.

Why your views matter

Before the surrounding housing was even complete over 18 months ago, Birmingham City Council Parks Service drew up Phase 2 proposals for the site.  More recently a Friends Group of local residents and councillors has formed and all parties felt that there is a good opportunity now to consult with local people to ascertain their priorities and ambitions for the park, and then develop the ideas into an affordable project.

What happens next

The results from the questionnaires will be collated, and we hope to then have a steer on what type of facilities to prioritise in our plans, for example, if additional play equipment for toddlers comes out as a high priority then we would propose installing additional equipment for this age group.
