Chilcote Safer Routes to School scheme
Overview
This scheme is being proposed to address road safety concerns in the area along and around Chilcote School. This project is funded by the Local Improvement Budget – Transportation and Highways Fund, which seeks to address minor transport issues that are identified at a ward level.
Overview of proposals:
Installation of:
- Bollards to prevent vehicles from mounting the pavement and protect people walking
- Pedestrian refuges to improve crossing movements for people walking
- Refuges to provide waiting areas when crossing wider roads
- Speed cushions to slow down vehicles
- Double yellow lines to restrict parking and maintain visibility and access at junctions
- Additional school warning signs to alert drivers to the presence of children and school crossing points
20mph speed limit on the following roads:
- Baldwins Lane (between Gracemere Crescent eastern junction and Primrose Lane)
- Barton Lodge Road (between Baldwins Lane and Scribers Lane)
- Scribers Lane (between Baldwins Lane and Barton Lodge Road)
- Hilton Avenue, Morris Field Croft, Chilcote Close and Barton Croft

Site 1
- Installation of a refuge on Baldwins Lane (outside property no.265)
- New speed roundels (painted on the road) and signs on Baldwins Lane (outside property no. 265)
- Installation of a pedestrian refuge on Barton Lodge Road (at its junction with Baldwins Lane)
- Pedestrian refuge on Acheson Road (at its junction with Baldwins Lane)
- Installation of double yellow lines on Baldwins Lane (outside properties no.316 – 320)
Site 2
- New 20mph speed limit signs and roundels on Newborough Road (outside properties no.316 - 320)
Site 3

Installation of double speed cushions on Baldwins Lane (on the approaches to the school access)
Site 4
- New speed roundels and signs on Baldwins Lane at its junction with Scribers Lane (outside property no.126)

- Double yellow lines on Scribers Lane (at its junction with Kedleston Road)
- Installation of bollards on Scribers Lane (on the pavement at its junction with Kedleston Road)
- Installation of additional school warning signs on Kedleston Road (opposite property no.115)
Site 6
- Installation of a refuge on Scribers Lane (between the junctions of Tixall Road and Barton Lodge Road)
- New double yellow lines on Scribers Lane (at its junction with Barton Lodge Road to outside of house no.166) and (between the junctions of Tixall Road and Barton Lodge Road)
- Existing 'H' marking on Scribers Lane to be removed
