About us

Who we are

We are the User Research Team, part of Digital & Technology Services at Birmingham City Council. We help teams understand the people who access council services and how to make them easier to use. We are independent of Birmingham City Council services, such as Adult Social Care or Housing. This means:

  • you can share your feedback openly and honestly, as your feedback will not affect any care or support you receive.
  • we do not make decisions about care, funding, assessments or support plans.
  • we cannot investigate individual cases or complaints.
  • your feedback will be used to help improve services for people in the future.

How we will look after your data

At Birmingham City Council (BCC), we strive to ensure that all information and data gathered is treated with the utmost care and is strictly used only for the mentioned purposes.  The data and feedback you share as part of this survey will be:

  • Used to improve the Birmingham City Council services, websites and ways of working.
  • Accessed by User Researchers at BCC and will be anonymised so that non-identifiable data is shared with the wider team.
  • Stored securely on BCC systems.
  • Anonymised so that non-identifiable data is shared with the wider team. This may include Birmingham City Council, other Local Government, Online Public Research Library or Big Blue Door (who are helping us to redesign and improve the website). None of this will include identifiable data that could be linked back to you.
  • We may use AI to help identify themes or common findings in survey responses. Any personal information will be removed and only anonymised responses will be analysed.
  • Stored for no more than 2 years after the end of this project. After this time, any personal information gathered will be securely deleted.
