Pulse Survey 2025
Overview
Birmingham City Council is in the process of reshaping to improve the way we operate. This survey is a valuable opportunity for colleagues working across the council to share their views, and to help us identify ways to improve the day-to-day experience of our staff.
Why your views matter
In November 2024, over 3,500 colleagues shared their experiences. Your feedback helped identify five key priority areas for improvement. Since then, the Engagement & Wellbeing Team has worked with leadership, managers, Trade Unions, Staff Networks, and colleagues to develop action plans tailored to each directorate.
The survey is open to all colleagues—this includes permanent employees, agency staff, interim staff, and consultants. It will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete and will help us to:
- understand your experience of working at the council
- identify our strengths and what you think we do well
- identify areas for improvement
The survey is completely anonymous - you won’t be asked to provide your name or email address. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This survey is being analysed by a small number of people within City Observatory - our team of experts in data analysis and insights. We will use this information to identify actions for improvement at both a local directorate and a council-wide level.
Your participation is essential to help shape the future of our organisation. Once you’ve completed the survey please encourage your colleagues to do the same. Together, we can create a better workplace for everyone.
If you need help accessing the survey, speak to your manager or email: ColleagueEngagementSurvey@birmingham.gov.uk
You can also stay up to date via the Colleague Engagement Hub on the council’s SharePoint.
Please click “submit” at the end once you’ve completed the survey.
What happens next
The anonymous survey will be analysed by the City Observatory, our in-house data experts, ensuring full GDPR compliance and confidentiality. Analysis will take place in July, with results and insights expected to be shared later in July 2025. The data will provide a snapshot of how colleagues are feeling across the organisation and within each directorate, highlighting our strengths and identifying areas for improvement.
Once available, the results will be incorporated into the ongoing Directorate action plans to maintain focus on priority areas that require attention. This information will be communicated via the intranet and made available via the Colleague Engagement Hub. Look out for communications.
This survey was a truly collaborative effort from council departments. Thank you to our Colleague Community, our Contact Centre, Marketing Team, Internal Communications Team, City Observatory, Digital Technological Services, PURE Project, the WebTeam, Staff Networks, Trade Union reps, and HR, OD & Transformation.
Thank you for your participation and for helping us build a better future for Birmingham City Council.
