Safer School Journeys - Ninestiles, an Academy
Overview
The Safer School Journeys programme is a city-wide initiative designed to make streets around schools safer, healthier and more welcoming for pupils, families and the wider community.
Funded through the Clean Air Zone and aligned with the city’s Road Harm Reduction Strategy, this programme offers dedicated support to help schools identify and address road safety concerns, improve air quality, and encourage more walking, wheeling, and cycling. It also supports the vision for Kids Streets across the West Midlands.
Ninestiles, an Academy has been selected for improvements as part of this programme.
We are proposing to introduce:
- A one-way on Hartfield Crescent (from Fox Hollies Road to Greenwood Avenue) to improve access and safety
- Speed humps to reduce traffic speed
- Junction narrowing at both ends of the road, including raised crossings to slow vehicles and make it easier and safer for people to cross the road
- No waiting restrictions (double yellow lines) to improve access and safety
- Bollards or planters to stop parking on pavements
- Tree planting, landscaping, seating and cycle parking to improve the look and feel of the area
