Overview

Birmingham City Council is proposing to alter the upper age limit of Turves Green Boys School from 1st September 2016.

Turves Green Boys School is a comprehensive maintained school located in the Northfield area of Birmingham. The school currently caters for boys aged 11 to 16. It can currently accommodate 625 students in Years 7 – 11. The school currently operates at 125 places (4 classes) per year group.

Turves Green Boys School worked in conjunction with Birmingham City Council to submit a successful bid to the Education Funding Agency under the Priority School Building Programme (PSBP) to renew its school buildings. The expansion of Turves Green Boys’ was part of the bid as a result of upcoming demand on school places across the City.

The Governing Body of the school will be expanding the school with effect from 1st September 2016. The school will therefore be able to admit 150 students through Year 7 – 11 rather than the current 125 pupils. This means there will be 5 classes per year group. The growth of the school will be gradual as larger numbers of children work their way through the school.

Birmingham City Council is proposing to alter the upper age limit of the school to accommodate sixth form provision which will mean the school can take 100 students across Years 12 and 13 with effect from September 2016 when the rebuilding work is complete.
