Closed 10 Aug 2020

Opened 20 Jul 2020

Overview

Birmingham City Council (BCC) invites you to view and comment on proposals for new housing and flats in the Pool Farm / Shannon Road area as part of the planned regeneration of the Kings Norton Three Estates.

These are draft plans and they continue to be developed however please note that the number of properties proposed in the Newsletter for the Barratts Road site has increased from 25 to 28.

Why your views matter

This follows on from previous consultations relating to proposals for regeneration in the area that were well supported by the Local Community. In 2016 there was specific consultation on rehousing and demolition to enable regeneration.

The rehousing of Council Tenants started in 2017 and will continue to be phased alongside demolition and the development of new housing.

Demolition has started in Gildas Avenue and the next phase of demolition will be at Bentmead Grove and Barberry House.

Subject to the rehousing being completed, demolition of properties in Barratts Road, Hillmeads Road and the remaining three Shannon Road tower blocks will follow.

We anticipate that the final demolitions in Shannon Road will be completed in 2022/23.

BCC is now taking the proposals for the Pool Farm / Shannon Road area forward through two planning applications.

There will be one full planning application (with all details of the houses, their exact location, landscaping and access set out) for the Gildas Avenue site, the Bentmead Grove site and Barratts Road site. There will also be an outline application (with the access fixed and an indication of the location of the new homes provided) for the Shannon Road site (tower blocks) and the Hillmeads Road site.

The proposals include new houses with gardens and off road parking, and also some new flats on the Shannon Road site.

The new homes will be a mix of tenures, including homes for sale and homes for Council tenants.

What happens next

Following the consultation, we will take your comments into account in finalising the proposals. BCC intends to submit the planning applications in Summer 2020. You will then have a more formal opportunity to comment on the planning applications once they have been submitted.
