We asked

We consulted on the proposal to prohibit the left turn from Highgate Middleway to Conybere Street for motorised vehicles, cyclists will not be prohibited, which was closed on 24th August 2014. In addition on 21st July 2014 the consultation on the proposal to provide a dedicated physical left turn slip lane between Belgrave Middleway and Highgate Middleway along with other junction improvement proposals was closed.

2 respondents objected to the proposed TRO to prohibit the left turn from Highgate Middleway to Conybere Street for motorised vehicles. 16 respondents supported and 10 respondents objected to the junction improvement proposals.

We did

We reported the TRO Objections to Cabinet Members and received approval on 8th April 2014 to implement the TRO proposal. Works to improve the flow of traffic and improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists at Haden Circus Ring Road Pinch Point Scheme is scheduled to begin on 27th July 2015 and will last for approximately 37 weeks.

Overview

Birmingham City Council has secured Department for Transport ‘Local Pinch Point’ funding to deliver infrastructure improvements at key roundabout junctions on the Ring Road, to reduce congestion and improve access to the Central Business District and Enterprise Zone; this includes improvements at Haden Circus.

Further to the previous consultation in July, the scheme has been reviewed and in addition to those proposals we also propose to prohibit the left turn from Highgate Middleway to Upper Conybere Street for motorised vehicles, cyclists will not be prohibited. This proposal is intended to address safety concerns over the possible conflict of vehicles exiting the roundabout and wishing to turn left into Upper Conybere Street with vehicles joining Highgate Middleway from the proposed segregated left turn slip lane. All motorised vehicles wishing to turn left will need to use Leopold Street. Details of the proposal are provided on the attached plan CA-02572-S1-001 (revision A).

This is a preliminary proposal and may be subject to change depending on responses received to this consultation. If you would like to discuss these proposals further, please contact myself Poonam Kamal on 0121 675 7421 or email me at: transport.projects@birmingham.gov.uk. Comments can also be provided in writing at the address below. We would be grateful if you could give us your feedback by no later than 24th August 2014.
