Overview

Proposal by the Interim Executive Board (IEB) of Al-Furqan Primary School:

The IEB, in collaboration with the Local Authority (LA), which is Birmingham City Council, is proposing to make the following changes to Al-Furqan Primary School:

Change the category of school from Voluntary Aided (VA) to Voluntary Controlled (VC) on 1st January 2023.

Following an Ofsted judgment of Inadequate in 2012, an IEB has been in place at the school since April 2013.

Following improvements in the school and an Ofsted judgement of "Good" in June 2017, various options for the school have been examined and the IEB believes that a change of category to become VC is the preferred option for the school to continue its improvement journey.

Details of the proposal can be found in the Statutory Proposal Document attached at the bottom of this consultation webpage.

Why your views matter

There is goverment guidance and a statutory process which the IEB must follow to make this type of change to the school.

This is Part 2 of the process: formal publication and consultation (known as 'representation period')

Please use the documents and online-survey at the bottom of this page to give your views and comments to the IEB before 21st July 2022.

What happens next

After the part-2 consultation closes, the IEB will confirm to Birmingham City Council if they would like to proceed to the decision stage.

The decision maker for this proposal is Birmingham City Council, as the Local Authority for Birmingham.

A report will be presented to the decision maker which will include a summary of the consutlation results and an anonymised copy of all comments received during the part 2 consultation.

The Council must make a decision no later than 21st September 2022.

The IEB and stakeholders will be informed of the decision and this webpage will be updated with the outcome.
