We did

We submitted a request to The Office of The Schools Adjudicator to consider our application to reduce the admission number at The International School.

The Office of Schools Adjudicator has approved the request to vary the admission number at The International School to 120 in Year 7 from September 2016.

Please see the attached determination letter.

Overview

The International School is a community secondary school located within Shard End ward of the Hodge Hill District. The school caters for pupils aged 11 to 16.  Currently the school operates at 180 places per year group for year 7 through to 11. The school is situated on Gressell Lane in Shard End.

For a number of years the school has offered 180 places. The number of pupils admitted to the school has been diminishing in recent years and is significantly lower than its current admission number of 180 across all year groups.

The falling rolls have created large amounts of surplus space at the school and impacted on the school’s budget. The Leycroft Building on the Gressell Lane site became unoccupied as the falling rolls continued to impact on the school. The site was identified in 2015 as a possible temporary site to help the City address the critical shortage of special school places by utilising it as an additional site to accommodate an expansion to Brays Special School.

In order to support the school manage their site effectively as they seek to improve the education offer, it has been considered by the Local Authority and Interim Executive Board of the school that a reduction in the admission number from 180 to 120 for 2016 should be sought from the Schools Adjudicator.

Current and prospective parents are due to be consulted by the Head teacher and Governing Body in writing and a copy of the letter is attached.
